Maximum limits for cold cuts, bresaola and cheese to be declared at customs (Italian and Swiss)

Livigno is a natural paradise located in the heart of the Alps, but it is also a paradise for shoppers thanks to the great convenience of a large number of product categories, which cost less here by virtue of the franchise in force. Among the duty-free goods available for purchase in Livigno there are also meats and cheeseswhich, however, can passing customs in limited quantitiesLet's find out which ones, so you can shop without any doubts or surprises.

Meat, bresaola and cold cuts purchased in Livigno: permitted quantities

Livigno is an extra-customs zone for centuries and still enjoys this special status, which consists of the exemption of VAT on certain goods. Meat and meat productssuch as cold meats and sausages, are among the duty-free goodsThis means that meat in Livigno costs less than in the rest of Italy, but that only one can be transported outside Livigno's borders. limited quantity (whereas there is no limit to purchase if consumption takes place within the municipality).

The recommended maximum limit of meat to be declared at customs in Livigno to Italy (Foscagno Pass customs, open all year round) is 5 kg per person. The invitation of Livigno's shopkeepers and traders is usually to take to the maximum 1 bresaola each (or any other sausage purchased in Livigno) to avoid any problems: this means, of course, that if there are more than one passenger, it is possible to bring more Livigno bresaola to Italy at the same time.

Be careful, though: quantities at Swiss customs changebecause the Swiss territory is not part of the European Community. Consequently, when leaving Livigno through the Forcola Pass (only open in summer) in the direction of Valposchiavo/St. Moritz or via the Munt la Schera tunnel in the direction of Engadin/Val Venosta/North Europe and consequently transit Switzerland, it is necessary at the relevant customs to declare a transport of meat and sausages not exceeding 1 kg per traveller. Beware therefore of how much bresaola to buy in Livigno, and to which cold cuts to choose from all our specialities!

Milk and cheese in customs in Livigno: the quantities to declare

Not only meat, but also another of the Livigno's food excellence is subject to restrictions as an extra-customs genre: we are talking about the milk and the dairy products obtained from it, such as our renowned mountain pasture cheeses. The quantity allowed for transport from Livigno towards Italy is the same as for bresaola and salami: 5 kg maximum per personto be declared to customs.

Also here for theimport from Livigno to Switzerland things change, like this:

for butter and cream the maximum limit is 1 kg (or 1 litre) per traveller;

for the cheeses the value must not exceed 300 CHF per person (including any other products including sugar, coffee and perfume).

The best solution? Carry the permitted quantities and take advantage of your stay in Livigno to try all our genuine mountain cheesesunlimited.

L'articolo Quanta carne si può portare da Livigno?
