Routes and hikes near the alpine hut in summer
Alpe Vago is an alpine pasture located at the far end of the long Livigno valley facing the Forcola Pass, Valposchiavo and the Bernina Pass. La hut which stands there, surrounded by verdant nature in summer and immersed in snow in winter, serves as a true outpost for all those who venture to discover this enchanting corner of Livigno away from the more touristy destinations, and invites hikers to take a break before resuming their walk or returning home. Around Alpe Vago there is a network of trails suitable for allhere are the most beautiful ones to walk.
Easy walk Livigno-Alpe Vago
Leaving the car at the car park P8 you can easily take the fastest way to Alpe Vago. Just to the side of the car park, just below the roadway that continues towards the Forcola, a dirt road substantially flat, appropriately signposted, which leads to the malga in less than half an hour on foot. When you reach the crossroads, ignore the track that continues straight ahead in the direction of the pass and instead turn left, crossing the stream on the wooden bridge and crossing pastures where cows graze grass in summer enjoying the crisp alpine air of Livigno: within a few steps you are in sight of the Alpe Vago hut.
It is a short walk suitable for children and familieson a dirt track that can also be used by pushchairs. Once done snack at Alpe Vago - or why not, even enjoy a good lunch - you can return by the same route or close the loop using the second route.
From Livigno to Alpe Vago: longer alternative
Anyone wishing to undertake aless short and slightly more demanding excursionbut also more beautiful from a naturalistic point of view with some passages through the forest, can start from the car park P7 of Livigno, cross the road bridge and take the dirt track that runs alongside the river SpolThis is dotted with picnic and barbecue areas. After an easy, flat first section, turn left at the fork and begin a gentle climb, passing an abandoned building. After passing a double hairpin bend, you reach the highest point of the route, again without too much effort, and enter the forest enjoying some welcome shade. Here the path, always wide and safe, continues flat and then gently sloping down to the plain where the pastures of Alpe Vagothe alpine hut and the farmhouse: the perfect place to enjoy the genuine local products in the midst of the nature of the Alps.
From Alpe Vago to the waterfalls of the Val Nera
Alpe Vago is also the starting point of theroute leading to the Val Nera waterfallsone of the most beautiful hikes to be made in Livigno in summer, without any particular difficulty and lasting approximately 2 hours return. The route is circular and can be tackled in two different directions, both of which are well signposted by the hiking signs in the vicinity of the malga. Either along the river on the left or on the opposite side, entering the Val Nera it is possible to admire the majesty of the mountains and nature up close, only to find oneself after about an hour's walk in front of the marvellous spectacle of the waterfalls thundering down the rocks. A scenic Tibetan bridge wooden walkway allows you to cross the stream and appreciate the descent of the water even more closely, before moving on to the opposite bank and closing the hiking loop: you return to Alpe Vago, for a more than well-deserved snack livignasca.
